I am a quadriplegic due to an accident playing Australian Rules Football in 1989.  I am now an Honorary Director of Spinal Cure Australia, a charity organisation who raises funds for spinal research.

   ABOUT SPINAL CURE AUSTRALIA

   SPINAL CURE AUSTRALIA formerly Australasian Spinal Research Trust (A. S. R. T.) is a registered, non-profit, tax-deductible charity, based in Australia and is made up of doctors, scientists, researchers, people in wheelchairs and their families totally focused on raising funds for the discovery of a cure for spinal cord injury.  All funds raised go directly to research projects here in Australia.

  There are over 20,000 people in Australia alone who suffer from spinal cord injury, with many thousands more worldwide. Currently global scientific opinion suggests a cure is less than five years away. That is to say, people with spinal injuries may have a chance to walk again and regain some semblance of our former lives. The results of this research will not only relieve the much pain and suffering of the many thousands of people worldwide in wheelchairs, but it will aid other ailments such as Juvenile Onset Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s Disease, Dementia, Alzheimer's and various Acquired Brain Injury related disorders.  

             Patrons of the trust include golfers Karrie Webb and Michael Long, jockeys Shane Dye, Roy Higgins, John Letts and Peter Mertens, Carlton coach Denis Pagan, ex Essendon Captain Tim Watson, swimmers Hayley Lewis and Tracey Wickham, Channel 10 news anchor Sandra Sully, actor Rupert Reid and Olympic skier Janine Shepherd.
